Church History

In August of 1950, Ms. Evelyn Fuqua came to Dryhill, KY. She moved in next to Ted and Sally Begley along the riverbank of the Kentucky Middle Fork River. The Home Missions Council helped Ms. Evelyn buy property from Mary Huff, for a mere $500.00. A dedication ceremony was held on Oct. 4th, 1953 for the newly built church. Ms. Evelyn started many ministries, including a Friday night youth boys club. She served until 1965, when Pastor Marvin and Dixie Lowery came to serve.

Marvin was a great servant and was called the “Laugh Man” for his hearty laugh. They served faithfully for 11 years. John and Jenny Sholley, came in 1976 and served 4 years. John was a good doctrinal bible teacher and responsible for the creation of the “Brethren Bunch”, a traveling youth singing group. Dave Schultze filled in for 6 months after the Sholleys left. Pastor Sam and Betty Baer arrived March 15th, 1979 and have served faithfully to the present. The Baers have 6 children who helped extensively with the church work.

A two story addition was added in 1984. In 1993 an addition was made to the parsonage and the Phillip Valentine Memorial Nursery was built. The newest addition was a 22 ft. steeple added in 1998.

Our church sits on seventeen acres of property that features a 475 seat worship center, full gym, learning commons, fireside room, many class rooms, lighted soccer field, softball field, and a stand alone 200 plus year old farmhouse that serves as the offices for the pastoral staff.

Pastor (Kent, a suburb of Seattle,WA)

Grace Fellowship Church of Kent, WA is seeking the man who is called to serve as its next pastor

Grace Fellowship Church of Kent, Washington is seeking the man called by God to become its next pastor. We look forward to hearing from him.

Current worship service attendance averages 40-50.  There is an opportunity to reach the many families in this suburban community to build this part of God’s kingdom.  The church neighborhood is very diverse in race and ethnic origin and has a mix of single family homes and apartments.

The pastor position is a full-time position (the only paid employee of the church) and is the only pastoral position.  The previous pastor retired (after 14 years) and relocated to Florida.  A retired pastor is serving part-time in the pulpit.  Sunday school classes and the ministries for women, men and youth are led by lay church members.  Four men presently comprise the church elder board.  Church member volunteers also perform most typical administrative and worship service duties (e.g., worship music, ushers/stewards, treasury and secretarial, custodial and maintenance).

The church facility is a well-maintained two-story property owned by the church, in a fully developed residential neighborhood (across the street from a public elementary school) in the city of Kent (population 120,000), which is a suburb of Seattle, WA.  The church is without debt and has operated with a balanced budget for more than ten years.  We expect future giving will need to grow with attendance, but existing church financial resources will provide a buffer while that occurs.

Washington ranked in the bottom 10 states for regular church attendance and religious belief in a Gallup survey, and this community needs to hear the Gospel.  We seek a man who will grow this church by encouraging and retaining the current church body while inviting others to join with them.
